Instant On is a solid, simple choice for a small office that wants HPE's name and support behind a handful of access points, and HPE states it charges no licensing or subscription fees. UniFi is the stronger fit when you want WiFi 7, larger gateways, or cameras and door access on the same console. Neither locks you into a renewal, so the decision is about scope, not recurring cost.

Is Aruba Instant On subscription free like UniFi?
Yes. HPE says Instant On can be managed from a phone or the web with no licensing or subscription fees, and UniFi likewise has no per-device license for access points, switches or gateways. On recurring cost, the two platforms are effectively even.
The brand changed along the way: the product line formerly called Aruba Instant On is now marketed as HPE Networking Instant On. Existing Aruba Instant On hardware continues under the new name.

Which is better for WiFi 7, UniFi or Instant On?
UniFi currently sells WiFi 7 access points across its range, from the two-band U7 Lite to the tri-band U7 Pro Max with 5 GHz 4x4 at up to 8.6 Gbps. HPE's Instant On access point pages include WiFi 6 and 6E models such as the AP25 and AP32; confirm HPE's current lineup before you buy.
WiFi 6E and WiFi 7 both use the 6 GHz band, so an Instant On AP32 still gives newer laptops clean 6 GHz spectrum. WiFi 7 adds wider channels and multi-link operation, which matters most in dense offices and showrooms. Specs: U7 Pro Max, AP32.
Can Instant On run cameras and door access like UniFi?
No. Instant On covers access points, switches and Secure Gateways. UniFi runs Protect cameras, Access door control and the network from the same console, with no per-camera license according to Ubiquiti.

How do support options compare?
HPE lists 24x7 phone support for the first 90 days after setup, then chat support for the warranty period, in its Instant On support FAQ. UniFi hardware does not include a vendor support plan, so day-to-day support comes from your installer.
