Managed UniFi Network Support for North Carolina Businesses

What does managed UniFi support include?

Managed UniFi support from Preferred Data covers seven things: monitoring, firmware updates with change control, backups of your UniFi configuration, security alerts, VLAN and firewall changes, help desk support for your staff, and on-site visits within 200 miles of High Point. It runs alongside Preferred Data's managed IT services and 24/7 monitoring.

  • Monitoring: gateways, switches and access points watched for outages, failed internet circuits and devices dropping offline.
  • Firmware updates with change control: updates reviewed, scheduled in a maintenance window, applied, and checked afterwards, with a rollback plan.
  • Configuration backups: UniFi console backups kept off the device, so a failed gateway can be replaced and restored.
  • Security alerts: vendor security advisories and threat alerts reviewed and acted on.
  • Network changes: new VLANs, WiFi networks, firewall rules, VPN users and port changes made and documented.
  • Help desk: your staff call one number for WiFi, printer, internet and computer problems.
  • On-site support: technicians on site within 200 miles of High Point when a problem needs hands, such as a failed switch or a new cable drop.

Why does UniFi firmware management matter?

Because gateways sit on the edge of your network, and their flaws are actively exploited. CVE-2026-34908, an improper access control flaw in UniFi OS rated CVSS 10.0, was added to CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog on June 23, 2026 with a federal remediation due date of June 26, 2026.

The NVD entry describes it this way: "A malicious actor with access to the network could exploit an Improper Access Control vulnerability found in UniFi OS devices to make unauthorized changes to the system." Per NVD, fixed releases include UniFi OS 5.1.12 and later for the UDM, UDM-Pro, UDM-SE and UDM-Pro-Max consoles (and for Cloud Keys, Cloud Gateways, UNVRs and Dream Routers), 5.1.11 and later for the UDM-Beast, and UniFi OS Server 5.0.8 and later. CISA added two related UniFi OS flaws, CVE-2026-34909 and CVE-2026-34910, in the same alert.

PDC's write-up, UniFi OS CVE-2026-34908: NC SMB network defense plan, walks through what to check. The lesson for owners is simple: a network that nobody updates is only as safe as the day it was installed.

Key takeaway: Automatic updates everywhere are not the answer either: an untested update to a gateway can take a plant offline. Updates need a schedule, a backup first and a check afterwards.

What is the difference between DIY, break-fix and managed UniFi?

DIY means your own staff watch and update the network; break-fix means someone is called after something fails; managed support means the network is monitored, updated and backed up on a schedule. The right choice depends on how much downtime costs you and whether anyone in-house has the time.

Ways to support a UniFi network
ApproachWho watches itFirmware updatesBest fit
Do it yourselfYour staffWhen someone remembersFirms with a network-savvy employee and time to spare
Break-fixNobody until it breaksRarelyVery small sites where a day offline is tolerable
Managed (PDC)Preferred Data, with 24/7 monitoringScheduled, with change controlPlants, offices and multi-site firms that need uptime

Doing it yourself genuinely works for some businesses: UniFi is designed to be approachable, and Site Manager makes remote management free. Managed support earns its cost where downtime is expensive or no one internal owns the network.

Can PDC take over a UniFi network someone else installed?

Yes. PDC starts with an assessment: who holds the admin accounts, what firmware is running, how the network is segmented, whether backups exist and what is undocumented. From there you get a list of fixes, and the network moves onto monitoring and scheduled updates.

  • Transfer ownership of the UniFi console and Site Manager to accounts your business controls, with multi-factor authentication.
  • Bring firmware current under change control, starting with the gateway.
  • Document VLANs, WiFi networks, firewall rules, switch ports and cable runs.
  • Set up configuration backups and alerting.

What does managed UniFi support cost?

Managed support is quoted per site, based on the number of devices, sites and users and whether help desk support is included. Preferred Data does not publish a per-device rate on this page; see PDC pricing or call (336) 886-3282 for a quote.

Frequently asked questions

Does Ubiquiti offer support directly?

Ubiquiti provides product support and warranty replacement. For deployment and on-site help, Ubiquiti runs a directory of installers it has certified. Watching your network and making changes safely is what an installer or managed service provider does.

Will you update our UniFi firmware automatically?

No, not blindly. Updates are reviewed, scheduled in a maintenance window, applied after a configuration backup, and checked afterwards. Urgent security fixes, such as those for actively exploited flaws, are prioritized.

Do you monitor UniFi Protect cameras?

PDC administers UniFi Protect: setup, updates, user access and retention settings, and alerts when a camera or recorder goes offline. PDC does not provide live video monitoring or alarm response.

Can you support UniFi at more than one location?

Yes. UniFi Site Manager manages multiple sites from one place at no license cost, and PDC provides on-site help within 200 miles of High Point. See multi-site business networks.

Do we lose control of our network with a managed provider?

You should not. PDC recommends that the business own the UniFi accounts, with PDC as an administrator, so you keep control if the relationship ever ends. Documentation and backups belong to you.

Is managed UniFi support part of managed IT?

It can be either. Many clients have network support as part of managed IT services; others add it on its own for a network PDC installed. Call (336) 886-3282 to talk it through.
